Hola y Bienvenidos a Tour de Taco!!!

My fellow cyclists and taco lovers, I am Duane C Stamm and I want to bring more coordinated rides to the Southshore area. I will be hosting rides I develop under NATIIVE CYCLING ROUTE SERIES. I hope this grows into a bigger event every year! The first of my "On Your Own" route series will be this ride, the "Tour de Taco: Ruskin /  Wimauma". I am still finalizing these routes, but this is a coordinated "On Your Own" ride which can be ridden anytime!! If you ride it prior, please go to my Facebook page called Natiive Cycling and upload the pics and writeup there! I would love to see it.

FREE REGISTRATION

There will be a sign in sheet at the beginning of the route under the 10x10 canopy playing music from 0900-1100 am the morning of the event. After 1100, I will be rolling through the routes and checking on riders. If you need help, please call 863 860 0950. Shoot me a pin on google maps or text me an intersection and I will make my way to you.

DESCRIPTION OF RIDE

The Tour de Taco is a ride which tours the different taco stands (which will be your many SAG stops should you choose to partake) around Ruskin and Wimauma, FL. The basis is to stop at as many taco places as you wish, eat and judge a taco (or spilt one with a partner if you want) top off with cerveza / agua / gatorade and ride to the next stop of your choosing. There are only suggested stops listed in the routes and all taco places are in play. I have listed as many as I see on the route maps provided in the pink links below. Each route will give you plenty of options to choose from.

IT'S FREEEEEE!!!!

The event ride is free (donations are  accepted for the routes and support under the 10x10 canopy where you will sign in at the start) and it will be the proof of concept, which will lead to better rides in the future. The money donated will go into a pot which will support the next ride with more supplements. I have put up the initial investment into support gear including 10x10 canopies, coolers, and tables.

SUPPORT

I will be close by with my truck, a 3x bike rack, and some basic repair tools (no tubes so bring your own) to aid in keeping you rolling. There will be free water, and gatorade at least twice on the 64 mile route and at least once at the halfway point for the 40 miler. All food should be purchased at the many Taco Stops along the way. Please bring cash as well as a card!! Not all small businesses can afford the cut that the debit cards take!

Routes are almost final and will be tweaked until the week of, but the drafts are listed here:

VOTING FOR BEST TACO

After you eat each taco, you will fill out an online vote by commenting in the comment section below for the best taco and submit it immediately after eating each taco.

IMPORTANT VOTING INSTRUCTIONS: List the Name of The Restaurant,  what kind of taco you got, and then describe the taco in the most descriptive and creative way possible. Then give it 1-5 stars.

NOW JUDGE THAT TACO BELOW!!!!!

Your mission will be to order at least one taco of your choice from as many of the places as you dare to compare. This may take some time, but most places are 5 min and less. To allow time between riders will aid in allowing people to order and not build up the line too bad. This is why there is a two-hour stagger built in for the start.

DETERMING THE WINNER!

Once you order and inhale your taco, I am asking you to judge each taco on this webpage (see comment box below). You can sign in with google or FB or just add your name and email to sign in as a guest.... You will enter the name of the place, the type of taco that you got, and as descriptive of a comment as you can muster up to describe every aspect of the taco. How did it look appearance wise? How did it smell? How did it taste? How was the texture? Did the taco remind you of anyone from your past or present? Would you eat that taco again and again and again, if you were on a deserted island? You get the idea. Use the most intense words you know to paint a word picture on how the taco made you feel. The way the judging works is words matter, emojis are for emphasis and accent, and the stars will be averaged for each place, and each one of their tacos being voted on. All aspects will count towards determining the winning taco. After describing the taco, you will give it anywhere from 1-5 stars. I will do my best to average out each type of taco from each location and come up with the winning taco.

PRIZE FOR THE WINNER

The winning restaurant/taco truck (Taqueria) will get a special writeup and picture as a subpage to the Tour de Taco page in my website and it will have bragging rights all year, and be the taco to beat for next year.

See Florida like a Natiive, on a bicycle!

I plan and lead cycling adventures around the state of Florida. I am originally from Lakeland and now live in the Tampa Bay area. I have a passion for pushing my limits and traveling both, as a minimalist, but I also enjoy staying in luxury and style. I started cycling in 2018 after spinal fusion took my running away and found out that I see way more interesting things along longer routes. This led me to go further and further and extend my range with time. I do both on and off-road bikepacking trips. My MLK Jr weekend trip in Jan 2020 was my farthest ride (189 mi) in one day. Come along for the next one and make memories that last a lifetime.
