Great Cycle Challenge 2020

Updated: Dec 17, 2020

Another cycling goal met, GCC 2020!!

Last year, I participated in my first Great Cycle Challenge. I rode 863 mi raising $1,442.04. This year, I am keeping the same goal of 500 miles which I plan on surpassing, but I am raising my goal to $2,500. Though COVID has had a detrimental effect on a lot of plans, mental health, and our way of life, I do not believe anyone has a grip on what the kids, or adults, and their families go through with cancer treatments unless you live through it. Everyday, they fight, and I want to join them in their fight by raising money annually through cycling ALOT of miles. I would love it if others joined me in cycling through signing up for this challenge. It's a great way to drop some of those quarantine pounds. If you can join the GCC, please do so!!! If you cannot, please consider making a donation to my page. Scan or click / copy and paste the link. Also, if you could please share my page on yours, I would truly appreciate it.

My motivation for riding!!

I am riding for my sister Dawn who was born with a tumor in her stomach, and turned out to be a great sister, a great mother to her children, and a great teacher inspiring many more generations. I am also riding for my mother-in-law, Barbara, who suffered cancer later in her life, has shared many other’s battles with cancer, but has maintained a great smiling attitude through these battles and keeps me motivated to do more. This year, I am concentrating my rides on my late Aunt Karolene. She died very young of Lukemia, and was buried at Oak Hills Burial Park in Lakeland, FL, 2/19/75. Block 130, Lot 3, Space 4. I will end my 500 mile ride at her grave site and lay flowers this year, and every year I participate from now on. I was not alive back when she passed, but I am loving my family more and more in these dark times. We will see each other through and there is a bright light on the other side. Keep the faith. GOD bless everyone.

I plan and lead cycling adventures around the state of Florida. I am originally from Lakeland and now live in the Tampa Bay area. I have a passion for pushing my limits and traveling both, as a minimalist, but I also enjoy staying in luxury and style. I started cycling in 2018 after spinal fusion took my running away and found out that I see way more interesting things along longer routes. This led me to go further and further and extend my range with time. I do both on and off-road bikepacking trips. My MLK Jr weekend trip in Jan 2020 was my farthest ride (189 mi) in one day. Come along for the next one and make memories that last a lifetime.
