WPB TO SB RIDE //
Cycle Florida like a Natiive! Come join me on another weekend Amtrak cycling adventure. This will take place over the 4th of July weekend, 3 July - 5 July. The ride starts with the majority of the miles ridden starting at morning light on the 4th of July, and coming back by train on the 5th. The 6th will be a rest and recoup day.
The plan is:
1) Buy an Amtrak Train Tix from Union Station Tampa, to West Palm Beach.
Website: https://tickets.amtrak.com/itd/amtrak Bikes can be added on the ticket for $20. Make sure to click the discounts if they apply. I found it easier to call and schedule tickets though. Call 1-800-USA-RAIL to buy tix over the phone.
Train Tix from Tampa to West Palm Beach= approx. $27 plus bike fee: extra $20.
Train Tix from Miami to Tampa = approx. $38 plus bike fee: extra $20.
Total Costs for Train Tix: $27 + $38 = $65 (add in $40 for bike fees) = approx. $105
The train schedule is 12:37 pm - 4:17 pm (3h 40m).
2) Check in at the Train Station at least an hour prior, then head over to Maloney's Local Irish Pub Downtown (1120 E Kennedy Blvd #140, Tampa, FL 33602) to meet up in a more relaxed environment. Be back to train station 20 min prior arrival to board train. Bikes will stay with us until the train is loading passengers, and we will hand the bike up to the baggage car attendants, then board. I would bring your bike to the pub, or lock it up at the outdoor waiting area near the train platform, if you trust people.
3) Debark train in West Palm Beach, then ride along the beach for the mandatory clock tower pic.
4) Ride around the beaches lined by ridiculous multi-million/billion-dollar estates and say, that’s gonna be mine someday!
5) End the night at O’Sheas Irish Pub, 531 Clematis St, West Palm Beach, FL 33401:
website: http://osheaspub.com/
We can get outdoor seating and watch over the bikes that will be locked up within reach.
6) Whether you make arrangements at a hotel nearby or stay at the pub, is your personal call. We will set a time to reconvene to start the ride before closing time. Last time, I chose to close the place down (just before 4am) and then start the ride from there.
7) The ride follows the beach as close to the water as possible, from West Palm Beach to South Beach, Miami. There are several cool places to stop along the way for photos, to swim, and some resupply, for lunch and drinks.
The route I planned is here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/31922885 The stops are not all mandatory, but I just called out a couple places of interest. I have a couple in mind that are must stops for me, albeit, quicks ones.
8) Once we reach South Beach, we can stop for a quick hour at the numerous places on Lincoln Road Mall.: https://lincolnroadmall.com/
For me, my vote is this place. Doraku Sushi:
Address: 1104 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach, FL, United States, 33139
Phone: 305-695-8383 . I am up for anything that looks good, but I need some sushi and sake at one point or another to get my fix.
9) Afterwards, we will press on another 17 or so miles to Aloft Hotel to check in. Then after a shower and change into causal wear, we will walk over to MIA Brewery (it’s in the same Parking Lot!!)
Hotel: Aloft Miami Doral
Address: 3265 NW 107th Avenue, Doral, Florida 33172 USA
Single Room $104 or Suite $152
M.I.A. Beer Company
Address: 10400 NW 33rd St #150, Doral, FL 33172
10) Sunday Morning, we will get up and pedal the 10 miles or so to the train station and ride the train back to Tampa.
11) Once back, you can either choose to ride back home, or be picked up at the train station. I will be riding 20 miles back home to Ruskin.
If you have any questions, please call or text me at 863 860 0950.
Till then stay safe and ride on.
Ride on,
